One happy Saturday recently I went for a lunch at a little French restaurant in York called Rustique. So popular is this place that there are actually 2 of them in the city centre itself; it is always packed and booking for the evening is essential.
It is easy to see why; a set menu, reasonably priced at below £17 for 3 courses, is full of crowd pleasing dishes that do not stint on size or flavour. To begin I chose a crab cake whilst my dining companion chose the pâté; for main course we both chose the steak frites, with garlic butter; finally, we both indulged in a dessert of chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. Washed down with an excellent glass of their red (I forget which I'm afraid), this was all terribly pleasing.
Rustique is an excellent choice if you are ever in York, craving comforting French dishes; its attentive servers and bistro atmosphere make it thoroughly worth the money, and the inevitable waddle home.
